This is probably one of the most important blogs you'll read if you're choosing to keep your natural curls on your wedding day. It is really tempting to think you hair stylist can fix all problems (and to be honest a good stylist pretty much can) but the better you know your curls the happier you'll be with the end result. I want you to love your curls as much as I love your curls.

I know the internet is full of advice on how to “get your curls wedding-ready.” Some of it’s useful, and some of it is… not. You don’t need a 27-step hair routine and you definitely don’t need to throw out every product you own just because a stranger on TikTok told you sulfates are evil. What you do need is a solid, realistic plan to make sure your curls look their best when it matters.

I’ve worked with enough curly-haired brides to know what actually makes a difference. No fluff, no unnecessary rules just the key things that will keep your curls defined, healthy, and ready to hold your wedding style all day.

1. Start With Healthy Hair (Not a Last-Minute Fix)

Your wedding hair isn’t about what happens on the morning of it’s about what you’ve been doing in the weeks leading up to it. If your curls are weighed down by product buildup (i'm very sorry to say) no amount of styling on the day is going to fix that.

What you can do:

  • Trim if you need it. Not a full-on haircut, just a light dusting of split ends so your curls look fresh.

  • Deep condition once a week. Hydrated curls are happy curls.

  • Clarify if your curls feel ‘off.’ If they’re limp, undefined, or products don’t seem to be working, it might be buildup. A clarifying wash can reset everything.

What you don’t need to do:

  • Panic. I don't think I need to say more on this.

  • Throw away all your products. I know the temptation is there and to start "fresh" might make you feel temporarily high but you switch more than one product at a time you'll never know what works.

  • Negative talk. We're not trash talking our hair even if its not the best curl day OKAY 👀 okaaaay.

2. Your Hair Needs a Plan for the Week Before

The last thing you want is for your curls to be overwashed, over-moisturized, or worse, too fluffy to hold a style. Here’s what actually works:

What you can do:

  • Wash your hair 2-3 days before the wedding. This gives your curls time to settle so they’re not too soft or slippery.

  • Don’t overload it with product. Heavy creams and oils can make styling harder. Keep it light.

  • Protect your curls while you sleep. Satin pillowcase or a loose pineapple bun whatever keeps them from getting squashed and also let's not forget - what is comfortable to sleep in.

What you don’t need to do:

  • Air-dry your curls at the crack of dawn on the wedding morning. You'll most likely stress if you're curls aren't drying the way you planned.

3. The Weather Is Not Your Enemy (If You’re Prepared)

Humidity, wind, rain (I see you British weather) yes, they exist. No, they don’t have to ruin your hair. The right prep makes sure your curls hold up, no matter what. As a stylist here are some things I will do to combat UK weather.

What you can do:

  • Humidity-proof your hair. A light gel or mousse can help create a barrier against the weather

  • Extra heat styling. I will use a tong to give your hair extra hold and lock in any products we have applied.

  • Think about your venue. Outdoors? You’ll want extra hold. Dry climate? You might need more moisture. UK? You'll probably need an umbrella *cries in summer showers*

What you don’t need to do:

  • Spend the whole day worrying about it. If your hair is prepped properly, you won’t need to keep checking it every five minutes.

4. The Night Before: Less Is More

This is not the time for last-minute changes. No deep conditioning, no experimental refresh methods just let your curls be.

What you can do:

  • Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase. It keeps your curl pattern safe.

  • Don’t overload with product. If your curls are already well-prepped, they don’t need anything extra.

  • Drink water and get some sleep. Seriously. Your hair (and your face) will thank you.

What you don’t need to do:

  • Stress about whether your curls will "behave." You’ve done the prep, now trust the process.

5. On the Day: Keep It Simple

Show up with the hair we discussed at your trial. I'll take it from here!

The best wedding hair is the one that makes you feel like you. Curly hair does take the most brain power - you have to go through steps that some people would never think of but you're genuinely blessed because imo nothing looks better than a natural curl on a wedding day, baby everyone is curling their hair and you already have it.

I'm always here for any curly questions you may have so give me a shout

love always

a x
